LEGO just released what’s sure to be the first of many Simpsons play sets–and to celebrate this momentous milestone in merchandising, FOX is doing a LEGO episode of The Simpsons.
The “Brick Like Me” episode that will air this Sunday seems to take place in another dimension of Springfield in which everyone is a LEGO toy and everything in the new world is made out of LEGO bricks. However, the old Simpsons dimension starts encroaching on their new LEGO universe as Homer starts seeing animated versions of himself and the things around him. It all starts when he buys a toy set for his daughter Lisa and it sparks a strange flashback. We’re treated to glimpses of The Simpsons’ house, Moe’s tavern, Rev. Lovejoy’s church and a bunch of other iconic Simpsons landmarks all presented in Lego form. If you’re any kind of Simpsons fans, it’s a sight to behold.
Of course, this is The Simpsons’ 25th season and as South Park once noted in a famous episode, it seems that they’ve done just about every hair-brained scheme that a cartoon writer could concoct. So this breaks some new and interesting ground for the longest running scripted primetime show in television history. This means, of course, that they’ll have to keep coming up with ideas now that they’ve cashed in the “Let’s do an all LEGO episode” chip. Maybe someday they’ll get so desperate for show ideas that we’ll get to see what The Simpsons would look like if they were made out of Duplo bricks.
