See Her Tonight
Katharine Isabelle on Hannibal
(10:00 PM EST, NBC)
Hannibal is one of those series that you’re supposed to feel very bad about not watching–and your humble See Her Tonight column hasn’t exactly been doing that much to promote the series. That changes tonight, though, since the show is introducing Katherine Isabelle as Margot Verger. This is big news for a few reasons. First of all, Hannibal is based on the books of Thomas Harris, who first introduced Hannibal Lecter in Red Dragon, and then saw his character become iconic after Hollywood made a movie out of Silence of the Lambs. (Yes, Manhunter came first, but this isn’t the time to geek out about that.)
Anyway, Margot Vedder is a character that first appeared in Harris’ book Hannibal, and she’s a lesbian bodybuilder. That can be a lot sexier than it sounds. Yes, we’ll admit that Harris didn’t exactly write Margot Verger as a sexy character in the book, and she didn’t even appear in the 2001 film adaptation, but now Margot gets a second chance because–as noted–the character shows up on Hannibal the series tonight as played by Katherine Isabell.
Katherine Isabell sure has the potential to end up as a lesbian bodybuilder. Her character obviously hasn’t gotten that way in tonight’s episode, but this ravishing redhead sure isn’t afraid of kinky roles. That’s been pretty apparent ever since Katherine broke out big in the feminist werewolf movie Ginger Snaps. She’d been a busy child actress through the ’90s, but Katharine started a new century in a very grown-up role. She’d end up making two more Ginger Snaps entries, too, although those were cultish enough to keep her underseen in Hollywood–although she stood out amongst the mayhem of 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason.
Katharine has been working steadily over the years, but she’s kind of become a genre star–and has really been embracing the title with her last few films. She got really wild in the bizarre 2012 indie American Mary, and was a Syfy regular with her story arc on Being Human. She’ll also be appearing in the multiplexes (we hope) when Kane comes back as a serial killer in the WWE’s See No Evil 2. We’re excited to see what happens with Margot, too–and you’ll be excited catching up with Katharine in the pics below…
