Hollywood continues to reach down into the barrel of your favorite childhood memories to remake into live-action movies. This time, tjhe studios are doing a remake of the classic glam-rock cartoon Jem & The Holograms–and the announcement comes very close to the release of another piece of Jem-inspired goodness.
The Hollywood Reporter announced that Nashville star Aubrey Peeples will play the title role in the new Jem movie. Stefanie Scott from the Disney Channel show A.N.T. Farm, Aurora Perrineau from Pretty Little Liars and actress Hayley Kiyoko will fill out the rest of the movie’s principal cast.
Meanwhile, the gals of the Dum Dum Girls were releasing their new video for “Rimbaud Eyes”–and it has a similar look to a certain musical cartoon that you may remember from the 1980s. It’s actually very well done and deserves to be part of the movie soundtrack or at least earn them some kind of spot in the film’s musical development, even if it doesn’t sound like something the real Jem might not sing because it lacks synthesizers.
All this 80s nostalgia encroaching into our time is making our heads spin a bit. We’re glad that Hollywood hasn’t forgotten them but it is making us a little wistful for our younger days when getting up before the crack of dawn was easier to do when you knew that cartoons and sugary cereal was part of the deal.
