Last Friday Toronto Blue Jay Todd Redmond was provided with one of the new protective hats for Major League pitchers, and there’s a reason we haven’t seen many other players wearing them…they’re enormous. According to our friends over at Extra Mustard, even pitchers who’ve recently been hit in the head with line drives aren’t very fond of the new oversized hats. Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon McCarthy, who took a ball off his head a few seasons ago, says the technology is there, but he just doesn’t think the hat is ready for major league use.
