There’s a lot of terrible ways to travel–but riding on top of a subway train is definitely up there with one of the dumbest.
A 45-year-old man was killed Wednesday night in New York as he was riding on top of a 6 train and his head hit a piece of overhanging subway infrastructure, NYPD said. It happened around 10:15 PM. Witnesses said the man had been walking between cars and then climbed up onto the roof of the train. The craziest thing, of course, is that we’re talking about a 45-year-old man doing something that’s usually associated with stupid teenagers. And, even then, particularly stupid teenagers.
And even weirder, there was another 45-year-old man who went by the name “Grump” who died similarly this past October when he was subway surfing. That was at least five months ago, so there’s a chance that Grump was even older than this new 45-year-old subway surfer from yesterday.
“Subway surfing is simply one of the dumbest things you can do,” MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz said Thursday. “Don’t do it.” And that’s a thought that COED proudly endorses to our readers of any age. Unless you’re over 80 years old, in which case that’s a pretty boss way to die.
