We’ve all gotten the wrong name written on our Starbucks cup every now and then, but getting a Satanic symbol in our coffee? This is a new low. Starbucks has issued an official apology to a Louisiana teacher who complained that a barista drew Satanic symbols (like a star that might have been meant to be a pentagram, along with ye olde “666”) in her drinks–as seen in the photo of the beverages that Megan Pinion posted on her Facebook page.
A spokesman for the coffee giant said the company became aware of her complaints, which were shared by about 1,800 people (we’re assuming more by now), through the social media service. “We reached out to her through social media and apologized,” said company spokesman Tom Kuhn. “We’re taking the complaint seriously. We’re not sure who served her or what kind of beverage it was. It looks kind of caramel-ish in the photos.” Why does this dude care what kind of beverage she got?
Pinion was extremely taken aback by the whole thing. In her Facebook post, she wrote, ““I unfortunately can’t give the young man’s name who served it, because I was so appalled that I could not bring myself to look at him. I am in no way judging his beliefs or dis-meriting his beautiful artwork, (but) I am however judging his lack of professionalism and respect for others.”
So next time you go to a Starbucks, make sure to double check the inside of your coffee–just in case you have some complete weirdo serving you. At least she got away without some sort of weird poisoning. Seriously, it sounds like the guy working there might have some serious issues. We prescribe a visit to Dunkin’ Donuts next time.
