We were already pretty excited when the Governor’s Ball lineup was announced a few months back, but now (for all those people planning on flying into New York), we know exactly which day has which artists.
In our opinion, Governor’s Ball has the strongest lineup out of the summer festivals. (Okay, besides Coachella.) We harped that the Lollapalooza lineup was a bit of a disappointment, and especially with Outkast already playing every single festival out there. We’re especially pumped about the headliners at Gov Ball this year, though. Friday brings French indie superstars Phoenix back into our lives. Their newest album Bankrupt! might not be as amazing as their 2009 breakout Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, but we’re still hyped to see these guys rock our Fridays–right before Outkast blows our minds.
Saturday’s got a little bit of everything for us headline-wise, with EDM giants like Skrillex and Disclosure, followed up by true rockstars like The Strokes and Jack White. It had already been announced that Julian Casablanacas would be playing, and then later confirmed that the entire Strokes band would be joining him. Now part of us hopes that Jack White is joined by Meg White and we see a White Stripes reunion. That would make for an absolutely amazing Saturday night.
Finally, Sunday closes our festival weekend with Vampire Weekend (pictured above). The New Yorkers released their best album to date last May and have been on tour pretty much ever since. We’re also pumped to see newcomers like Skaters and Earl Sweatshirt rock sets much earlier in the day. Looks like we won’t be out that late on Saturday.
