In a familiar strategy to keep the cash flowing even if an artist is dead, Epic Records has announced that a posthumous Michael Jackson album titled Xscape is due on May 13. Which means that Michael Jackson’s estate is finally catching up with Tupac’s people in cleaning up on stardom after death.
The new album is the brainchild of Epic CEO L.A. Reid. who’s starting out by packing an entire 8 tracks of new material. It will use finished vocals that the King of Pop left behind when he died tragically almost 5 years ago. Reid got help from Timbaland and other hot producers to help make the album sound a bit more 2014. “Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with,” explained Reid. “We are extremely proud and honored to present this music to the world.”
And are we surprised that they’re doing a posthumous album for MJ? Not at all. Honestly, we’re shocked it took this long to happen.
