It’s a very special day as we celebrate the birthday of Frederick Pabst–who was born in 1836 and probably never dreamt that he’d still be toasted almost two centuries later as the founder of Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer. Which, as everyone knows, is the single most fashionable beer in the entire universe. Or at least in the NYC borough of Brooklyn, which is currently the center of the universe as far as tastemakers are concerned. And they sure love the taste of Pabst Blue Ribbon.

In fact, Pabst Blue Ribbon has been the Official Beer of Hipsters ever since 1986. That was when noted film director David Lynch shook up the multiplexes with his bizarre erotic thriller Blue Velvet, which featured Dennis Hopper as psycho Frank Booth–who had a notorious scene where he profanely proclaimed that Pabst Blue Ribbon was his beer of choice. (There’s NSFW language, but check out the official endorsement here.) There was plenty of Pabst Blue Ribbon merch popping up in the underground scene after that.

And now we have beards and trucker culture and work clothes and Pabst Blue Ribbon as constants in the best bars where young people of a certain bent get together for drinks. Now raise a toast to┬áthis amazing gallery of young folks celebrating Pabst Blue Ribbon–plus┬áBill Murray, who’s just made the news for sporting some Pabst Blue Ribbon shorts out on the golf course. And our apologies to August Anheuser Busch, Jr., who was also born on this day back in 1899. Budweiser hasn’t been a hip beer since the hardcore days of the early ’80s…
