The creator of the hit 90s show The X-Files is coming back in the sci-fi television world with a new series tentatively titled Area 51. Chris Carter will both write and serve as executive producer on the series–which is based on Annie Jacobsen’s 2011 book Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base. The series will also have an executive producer in Gale Anne Hurd, who is already executive producer of AMC’s hit show The Walking Dead. Carter’s been busy at work, as he just developed another sci-fi show called The After. The Amazon original series pilot premiered in February, and is greenlit for a full season.

Being big fans of The X-Files, we’re definitely excited to see what Carter can do with the show, even if Area 51 is definitely a bit of a tired topic in the Sci-Fi universe. That being said, anything greenlit for AMC is bound to be good, so we’re at least thankful that this is going to be a cable show and not on network televison. More partial nudity and violence?  We’re good with that–and we’re hoping for the same high production values as the classic film Hanger 18
