The trailer for Michael Bay’s re-mutation of the beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has found its way to the web.
The action movie giant’s reboot of the beloved 90s cartoon franchise puts the four turtles on the big screen in CGI for the first time in movie history. The trailer released just minutes ago only showed short snippets of the Foot Clan fighting reptiles in action but considering that it’s the most we’ve seen of them so far, the hardcore TMNT fans must be sh#*$ing in their collective shell costumes right about now. The trailer also features some fleeting glances of Will Arnett, William Fitchner (as their arch nemesis Shredder), and Megan Fox as April O’Neil…
Some of the TMNT purists are probably grousing about the fact that this version plays around with the origin story for the fighting foursome. According to the trailer, the Turtles are still created by a mutagen–except the people who did the mutating appear to be April’s father and the man who would become Shredder. Maybe that’s so they could give the whole movie a Darth Vader-style father vs. son angle.
This reboot may still be a bit farther from the original origin story created for the comic books (and the TV show), but at least it’s not the story that Michael Bay and company originally wanted for their movie. According to some reports, an earlier draft of the script said that the Turtles were actually aliens from a distant planet. Which is an insane idea even for the likes of Michael Bay. If they went with that version, they’d have to call the movie Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles, since they technically wouldn’t be mutants. We still would’ve loved have seen the massive fan revolt that could’ve caused. We’re sure this one, of course, will make all the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles perfectly happy, and the internet will remain peaceful all day.
