FX is bringing back Fargo, one of the greatest crime movies and certainly one of the best Coen Brothers movies of all time, in the form of a serial drama. They just released the first full trailer for the series scheduled to start on Tuesday, April 15th.
It looks like it will be a loose interpretation of the movie that starred Steve Buscemi, William H. Macy and Frances McDormand who won a Best Actress Oscar for her role as Det. Marge Gunderson. This time, Sherlock and The Office star Martin Freeman steps in for Macy as Lester Nygaard, a small town insurance adjuster whose involvement with a ruthless criminal named Lorne Malvo, played by Billy Bob Thorton, sets off a series of dark, grisly events in his small, snowy corner of Minnesota. The cast also includes such familiar names as Colin Hanks, Bob Odenkirk, Kate Walsh, Glenn Howerton and Adam Goldberg as the mysterious sounding character “Mr. Numbers.”
If you’re not excited as hell to see this, you really need to check for a pulse. Not only does this have one of the most impressive cast lists for a TV show since Breaking Bad went off the air but it’s source material has some of the highest caliber of any medium. Fargo is one of those few Oscar winning films that everyone was sure would take home some of the bigger awards because it’s smart and accessible. Just about anyone with a working brain can watch and find something to absolutely love about it. Let’s hope the TV series can do the same thing.
