Weird is officially the new sexy when it comes to music videos. Lil John and DJ Snake’s club anthem, “Turn Down for What,” has been out for awhile but the song finally got the video it deserves.
Directed by the unstoppable duo, The Daniels, perhaps best known for their music video for indie band Foster the People’s “Houdini,” these guys did not disappoint. It’s absurd, it’s wildly inappropriate and it’s everything you want in a video. The concept is a man who is physically incapable of turning down. He’s basically a “turnt” superhero, with a hypnotic crotch and the ability to make others get just as hyped, as he wilds through the night. [Editor's note: A younger version of this guy]
It’s refreshing to see that the trend is going for weird in dance music videos. Last year, we got Major Lazer going extra strange for “Bubble Butt.” Instead of just going for a much more straight forward “strippers in da club” angle, the group decided to shock and awe with something from Eric Wareheim of Adult Swim’s Tim and Eric. It seems to make more sense in this day and age, that if you’d like your video to go extra viral…you gotta make it stand out amongst the millions of other videos out there on the interwebs.
So watch the video and get super hyped because tomorrow is Friday. Of course, to all the lucky bastards on Spring Break right now…keep this video on repeat. You won’t be disappointed.
