Fort Tilden is the tale of two hipster gals–one planning an excuse to get out of the country and the other waiting for her dad to keep funding her art career–having an existential crisis while trying to make a two-mile trip around Brooklyn. Yes, it sounds like an episode of Girls, but that didn’t keep Fort Tilden from winning the Narrative Feature Grand Jury Prize at this year’s SXSW Film Festival. The movie looks to have strolled into the victory circle, too, according to juror Oliver Platt.
That’s pretty good for a movie with a cast of virtual unknowns and a celebrity cameo that’s painfully obvious–as in, “Who’s your first guess for a celebrity cameo in a low-budget movie about Brooklyn twentysomethings having an existential crisis?” Anyway, here’s a clip, so decide for yourself how excited you are about Fort Tilden. And let’s hope it’s not the next Tiny Furniture….
