The Asylum, the movie studio behind such weird hits as Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark and the iconic Sharknado (or Shark and Tornado vs. Everybody), has announced a new title in its line of “versus” movies.
The upcoming film stars Dean Cain of TV’s Lois and Clark as a U.S. Air Marshal doing a ride-along on the one plane that gets caught in the path of a massive supervolcano that seems to be threatening pretty much anything within a 5,000 mile radius. The trailer for the upcoming B-movie features footage of the massive lava flinger tossing fireballs and tsunamis at a nuclear power plant, a military base and a crowded beach. The movie also stars Robin Givens and Lawrence Hilton Jacobs–the latter best known for playing Freddie “Boom Boom” Washington on Welcome Back, Kotter. The studio released an epic trailer for the new movie, and it’s filled with all the destruction, danger and needless screaming that you’d expect from a movie about an airplane fighting a volcano.
We’ve all seen enough of these movies by now to know what’s going to happen. The volcano is going to threaten the airplane and all the innocent humanity foolish enough to be on board. Cain is going to yell a lot as computer generated effects fly across his open-mouthed face. People will run screaming for their lives from some invisible terror that the editors planned to green screen in later. In other words, it’s going to be epic.
