Although it’s been hinted for months, Adam Driver is closer than ever to inking a deal to play the villain in the brand new J.J. Abrams Star Wars sequel, Star Wars: Episode 7 opening December 18, 2015.
A lot of you bloggers out there seem to think that Driver has completely accepted the role, but according to Variety, nothing is set in stone yet. Plot details are being kept under wraps, though he is said to be playing a character in the vein of Darth Vader. Does this mean that he’s going to be related to Vader in anyway? Exciting times to ponder what or who exactly this villain is going to bring to the table.
Actors Michael Fassbender and Hugo Weaving were also named as contenders for the part, but for whatever reason, they didn’t nab the role. Other than Driver, most of the cast possible choices have not been revealed. Supposedly the delay in making a decision on Driver as the villain was due to scheduling issues with “Star Wars” and his extremely successful HBO show Girls. However, if it’s coming down to picking between continuing on with a show with Lena Dunham as the main character or one of the greatest Science Fiction franchises of all time…we’d like to think the decision is pretty damn easy.
The film is scheduled to shoot at London’s Pinewood Studios in April. Star Wars: Episode VII will continue the Jedi saga where Return of the Jedi left off, which makes every nerd (us) in the world very excited. Meanwhile, we’re curious to see if Adam’s turn can match the villainy of this classic Girls moment…
