Kelly Hu is turning 48 years old today–that being February 13, 2014–and we’re just as surprised as you are. That’s even despite knowing that she’s been around long enough to have been killed off by Jason in 1989′s Friday the 13th: Part VIII. That was way back in 1989, and it wasn’t even Kelly Hu’s acting debut. She had already shown up in America’s living room in a few sitcoms and dramas.
That was after the former Miss Teen USA had done plenty of modeling overseas. But it’s no surprise that Kelly went on to a much bigger career than most of Jason’s victims. She survived her first slasher film and quickly went on to a role in Oliver Stone’s big-screen rock bio The Doors. Kelly Hu was a busy name right through the next of the ’90s, and seemed set to just become a regular working actress on television. It was probably her occasional adult modeling career that suddenly landed her back in the multiplexes with The Rock for the epic fantasy The Scorpion King in 2002.
Kelly followed up that unexpected break with a turn as the mutant assassin Lady Deathstrike in X-Men 2 . As usual, Hollywood didn’t really know what to do with an exotic gal like Kelly, but at least she went into the new century with more people knowing her name. We should also note that her voice got pretty well know, too. She spent six seasons doing voice work on Phineas and Ferb. That’s a pretty high honor. But we feel more like celebrating Kelly’s enduring body, which has us thinking that she has a few more decades to be discovered by more male fans…
