Derek Jeter is one of the best players in baseball history so there was always going to be a big reaction when he decided that it was time to hang the spikes up. Jeter announced on Wednesday that he will retire after the 2014 season from the New York Yankees and will take with him a legacy like no other.
Jeter will have his No. 2 retired at some point in the Bronx and deserves that honor. The Hall of Fame will be waiting for him in 2019. The question that needs to be asked though is what the Yankees will do for Jeter this season? Will Jeter get the same treatment that Mariano Rivera got last season during his final tour around Major League Baseball?
There would be no reason why he wouldn’t. The 2014 season will be one where fans around the sport need to go out and enjoy seeing Jeter for the final time. He is a player that may not be seen again for a long time.
