A new trailer for Scarlett Johansson’s supremely creepy thriller Under the Skin just hit the web–and it looks like one of those hyperactive art movies but it’s actually something that might interest the guy movie crowd besides the fact that Scarlett Johansson spends a good bit of time on screen in her underwear. It’s based on a really twisted book by Michael Faber. The blonde bombshell plays an alien temptress sent to Earth by some kind of intergalactic corporation to harvest humans for food.
The movie is directed by Jonathan Glazer who also directed such weird movies as Sexy Beast with Sir Ben Kingsley. Actually, this one seems more like Species with Sir Ben Kingsley. Remember that one? It might explain why this Under The Skin trailer might feel familiar…
Dark doesn’t begin to describe it. If the story alone doesn’t creep you out, the director’s visual style will more than do it for you. It has a weird, hyper David Lynch style of movement and color to match its already dark mood. It also offers a perfect role for Johansson, especially after her voice only role in Spike Jonze’s Oscar nominated Her in which she played the voice of a computer operating system that causes its user to fall in love with it. This basically feels like the evil version of that.
Plus, if an alien race was going to send down a human harvester to attract human males for food, Johansson would be the ideal choice for an avatar. That makes her even scarier. The next guy who she asks to have a bite with is going to have a hard time not wetting themselves.
