U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen showed up for work with an interesting choice of wardrobe–that being an outfit that looked like it came from the closet of Tony “Scarface” Montana. The Republican Congresswoman was sporting a white suit jacket and red shirt with a large hang-glider sized collar sticking out of the top. We’re not sure what inspired her to notice the similarity on her Instagram account, but it was probably a good idea.
Ros-Lethinen knows the movie, too. She claimed her costume drove her to say in her speech, “que mas carne ni mas carne, asi viene el sandwich meng,” a loose quotation from the movie Scarface that roughly translates to “more and more meat on the sandwich.”
There were certainly worse quotes that she could’ve pulled from Scarface.
And what does it mean that Ros-Lethinen represents Florida’s 27th Congressional district–which is located in Miami, the same city where Tony Montana founded and ran his criminal empire in the classic Brian De Palma film? Well, it means that she was pretty smart to quickly reference the clothing choice on Twitter with, “Two Cuban-Americans who took different paths but both with great style! Say hello to my little gavel!” Then again, considering the fact that Congress has the lowest collective approval rating in U.S. history, a power-hungry drug lord would probably represent a step up image-wise for the “do-nothing Congress.”
