Bruce Springsteen’s Son Joins the New Jersey Fire Department
Normally, being Bruce Springsteen’s son would earn you enough credit to be cooler than most of the general population. However, one of his kids did something that would make them infinitely cooler even if they weren’t a Son of the Boss. [Image via GabboT/Flickr]
According to the Asbury Park Press, Springsteen’s youngest son Sam graduated from the Monmouth County Fire Academy and got a job as a firefighter with one of New Jersey’s finest firehouses. Of course, anyone who has tried to become a firefighter or watched a group of applicants and thought “Man, that looks tough” knows that just getting that far is a major accomplishment. The required training involves 188 hours of equipment care and transportation drills and dangerous fire and rescue instruction. It’s a physically grueling experience that can take a huge toll on weaker humans. It’s not for those of us who can easily work up a sweat during a particularly furious game of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
It’s also refreshing to see a celebrity’s kid taking such a bold step in life and dedicating their livelihood to helping their fellow man rather than living on the extremely well-tailored coattails of their famous parents. It’s also a huge step up from the career choice of one of Springsteen’s other children. His daughter Jessica is a professional equestrian. Plus, she doesn’t just race horses. She dresses them like dolls in matching outfits for each race. She managed to take it to a level that makes the Romney family’s horse dressage pursuits look like an Iron Man biathlon.
