Bruce Springsteen and Jimmy Fallon (as Bruce Springsteen) paired up last night for a touching tribute to the New Jersey working man put in a traffic jam, courtesy of the big bridge scandal that’s caught up Garden State Governor Chris Christie. It’s the kind of parody that a rock star like Bruce Springsteen can indulge while promoting an album like his new High Hopes–which is really a collection of reworked older songs and some other weird bits.
It’s not weird to see celebrities posing next to comedians doing impersonations of them, of course. That’s pretty much become a comedic mainstay courtesy of Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels. Who also produces Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, of course. Anyway, this is about as lite as political parodies get. You’ll notice that the most dramatic moment is quickly followed up with a cry of, “I’ve gotta pee!” That’s the secret to comedy, people.
