This past weekend, COED returned to Madison Square Garden to catch The 2014 Monster Energy Invitational aka the 500th Professional Bull Riding event. Not only is the PBR’s annual visit to NYC one of our favorite events at Madison Square Garden, it’s one of our favorite events all year (see our 2012 coverage here).
It’s literally the only weekend when you can wear a cowboy hat, see a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model, and watch the world’s best bull riders right here in New York City. Minus the cowboy hat (it was freezing cold), that’s exactly what we did.
We started off the night as one should–by taking a photo next to the PBR trophy. Oh, hey, remember two years ago when I met Kate Upton right by this exact same trophy? Because I certainly do. This time, the blonde bombshell was nowhere to be found but Bryant and Greg sort of kind of made up for that. One person of note we did find, however, was Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model Julie Henderson. A resident of Texas, Julie is a huge fan of bull riding. We’re big fans of hot chicks in flannel.
After our photo op, we headed to the Monster Energy Garden Party where we were greeted by the Monster Energy Girls and hundreds of people excited to watch the 500th PBR event. For the past eight years, the PBR has been coming to Madison Square Garden and using it to kick off their season. And from the words of PBR CEO and Chairman Jim Haworth’s speech you can tell that this is one of their favorite stops.
But as much fun as it was to hang out with the Monster Energy Girls and drink free booze, we wanted to watch some actual bull riding. And that’s exactly what we did.
Bulls with names like “Bushwhacker,” “I’m A Gangster Too,” “Temporarily Misplaced,” “Stay Thirsty,” “Jack Daniels After Party,” and “Meat Hook” all tried to shake off the best bull riders in the world. And at the end of the three-day competition, Fabiano Viera stood victorious as the #1 leader in points.
Check out some great photos we took of the event in the gallery below. Special thanks to PBR and Monster Energy for taking us.
