Jonah Hill turns 30 years old today as the star of Superbad, Moneyball, 21 Jump Street and the upcoming Martin Scorsese movie The Wolf of Wall Street. That’s a lot better than anybody expected of him back in 2004–when the actor scored his first on-screen role in the barely-remembered David O. Russell film I Heart Huckabees.
That would lead to Jonah Hill making an unlikely big splash as an awkward eBay store customer in The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Hill followed that up with the college comedy Accepted. Then along came the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg high-school comedy Superbad–which became a certified hit and turned Hill into a superstar almost overnight.
A lot of people expected that Jonah Hill would make a few more films and then end up on a sitcom. He certainly didn’t seem like the kind of guy who could headline a movie. Instead, Hill survived questionable comedies like The Sitter and Get Him To The Greek to get plenty of acclaim in 21 Jump Street. There was also an Oscar nomination for Moneyball, and some industry types say that’ll happen again for Jonah with The Wolf of Wall Street.
So let’s assume that Jonah Hill is having an exceptionally fine birthday today. And whether you’re a fan of Fat Jonah Hill or Skinny Jonah Hill–or Medium Jonah Hill, which is where he mostly seems to be nowadays–you’ll likely be looking back with laughter at these classic Hill GIFs. If you’re not too busy cursing us for using a line like “looking back with laughter.” We dunno. We thought maybe you’d laugh…
