ElectroArrives.com! That’s the URL hidden away in the new Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer that came out last week–and we wish that we knew who to credit for making that discovery. The official video is closing in on 20 million viewers, but it took one very special fan to obsessively do a frame-by-frame analysis and find the Easter egg hidden among the other fun imagery. (Not to brag, but it only took us about ten viewings before we noticed the Dr. Octopus arms and Vulture wings in the background of one scene.)
Anyway, now that we know about ElectroArrives.com, the placement in the trailer seems incredibly obvious. The URL is there in plain sight on a glowing blue bar when Electro is first fully revealed for the first time. Just take a look. You can’t miss it, there on the upper right…
Well, it’s not our fault that you need glasses. Anyway, we should have known to look for a hidden URL. The same stunt was pulled in the first trailer for Star Trek: Into Darkness–but the filmmakers cleverly distracted us by placing it in the same shot as Alice Eve in her underwear. That made sure that only a dedicated geek would find the thing. (We should also note, of course, that Spider-Man 2 is one of our Most Anticipated Movies of 2014.)
Anyway, there’s not a lot going on at ElectroArrives.com. You only get a shot of Harry Osborn monitoring the lab accident that results in the creation of Electro–but there’s also a clock counting down to something. We do not know what that will be, but we’ll find out in 19 days, 10 hours, 51 minutes, and 34 seconds. Wait, that’s 32 seconds…no, 29 seconds. Dang. This is hard. Anyway, now we’re watching the trailer even more often, and looking for more incredibly obvious clues hidden away….
