Kristen Bell on Lady Gaga & The Muppets’ Holiday Spectacular

(9:30 PM EST, ABC)

Lady Gaga & the Muppets’ Holiday Spectacular probably isn’t going to become a holiday perennial. Maybe it’ll end up more of a kitschy fave like the Star Wars Holiday Special. At this point, the show’s biggest job–clocking in at 90 minutes–is to save the career of CBS executives who are sweating things out over the stiffening sales of Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP. Those executives are hoping for the Muppets to save the day now. (See Her Tonight, meanwhile, has already relied on Hawaii Five-0 to bring in Taryn Manning as a proper Thanksgiving guest.)

At least somebody at CBS thought to book Kristen Bell as a special guest star. That’s enough to get us very interested tonight. They could’ve gone with Rip Taylor or Charo, but Kristen Bell is a proper surprise. She was kind of forgotten amongst the House of Cards hype, and her upcoming starring role in Disney’s Frozen is just voice work. Kristen will be a big deal next year with the fan-funded Veronica Mars movie, but she certainly counts as a Very Special Guest Star to us.

Kristen deserves the exposure, too. She had a nice leading role in the direct-to-video The Lifeguard, which was a compelling tale of twentysomething angst. We even followed the plot instead of just leering at Kristen in her Baywatch-styled swimwear. (You’ll be thankful if you hit that link.) Kristen was also great with a short turn on Parks and Recreation this year–so take a break from your Thanksgiving festivities to park your butt and enjoy some recreational pics of this Thanksgiving treat…
