Saturday Cocktail: Montelobos Mezcal Picador
“Tequila para despertar a los vivos, Mezcal para despertar a los muertos.”
Translation: “Tequila to wake the living, mezcal to wake the dead.”
If there’s one thing we know about mezcal, it’s that it’s certainly not to be confused with tequila. Even though both spirits are made using the agave plant, tequila does not share mezcal’s smokey flavor and ancient history. In fact, only a handful of Mexican states are licensed to even produce the spirit, and the majority comes from Oaxaca where the mountainous conditions are perfect for farming agave. To celebrate our newfound knowledge, we are toasting to this weekend with Montelobos Mezcal Joven.
Distilled from sustainable and 100% organic agave, mature plants are harvested, cooked, mashed and then fermented for several days. The mash is then placed in a copper tub and heated by wood. The resulting liquid is distilled a second time to achieve Montelobos’ unique and perfectly balanced flavor profile. Each bottle is numbered by hand.
Pretty cool right? So put down the Patrón and make this weekend’s Saturday cocktail the Montelobos Mezcal Picador. You’re going to love its vibrant taste. Cheers!
