Leonor Varela on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
(8:00 PM EST, ABC)
Everybody’s geeking out over speculation that tonight’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will include a cameo by Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. We prefer to spazz out over the absolute certainty that Leonar Varela is on tonight’s episode–which has the government super squad traveling to Peru to check out some mysterious object known only as 0-8-4. That really seems like a Cloverfield reference, right? Anyway, we’d travel anywhere to check out the lovely Leonar Varela. There’s no mystery why, either.
The exotic beauty was born in Chile and grew up all over Europe, and then returned to her homeland for her big break in a soap opera called Tic Tac. (For further confirmation of Chilean charms, check out Chilean Promo Girls and Reef Girls.) It wasn’t long before Leonor Varela was an international big name. It wasn’t long before Hollywood brought her to American multiplexes. Leonar was pretty stunning in the 1998 production of The Man in the Iron Mask (with Leonardo DiCaprio), and was treated like a movie star when she took on the title role on an ABC miniseries called Cleopatra (with Billy Zane, who was also briefly her fiancé).
A lot of American guys still didn’t get a look at Leonor until her turn as a heroic vampire in 2002’s Blade II. Her career never really took off, but Leonor sure took on some cool roles. Comedy geeks remember her as Gob’s most serious romance on Arrested Development, while sci-fi geeks adored her on an episode of Stargate: Atlantis. Leonor also showed up for a memorable turn in the underseen 2008 biker epic Hell Ride.
Since then, Lenora has gone back to international productions. Even her Twitter account is mostly a foreign affair. Smart Hollywood producers still bring her in to liven up some American films. She’s aging impressively, too, as seen in a recent commercial with George Clooney where Lenora’s a real object of desire. You have to watch until the end of tonight’s S.H.I.E.L.D. episode to see if Nick Fury shows up, but we’ll be watching to the end in hopes of one more look at Leonor. You can take lots of looks at her now, and scroll down to the end for that commercial with Clooney…
