Lonerider Sweet Josie Brown Ale

By The Professor JW Faulkner – @EngProfJW

Before we get into the beer, a question: what is a cowboy’s chick called? Pirates have wenches, knights have their ladies and damsels in distress but what about cowboys? Is she a cowgirl? And I am not talking about some Little Bo Peep that does as her man tells her. I am talking about a worldly chick who can look through you while pleasin’ you at the same time. I’m talkin’ about a chick who is a sexy dominatrix (COED’s search words just took a huge left turn!). Sweet, dominating and sexy all describe this week’s recommendation; this week, one of the best brown ales on the market, Lonerider Sweet Josie Brown Ale, is What’s on Tap.

Unpretentious, down-to-earth and approachable all describe Lonerider’s staff. At its core, Lonerider Brewing in Raleigh NC personifies the mantra “beer people are good people.” Since 2009, they have been brewing “Ale for Outlaws,” aka beers with an Old West theme; think Clint Eastwood decides instead of smoking those little cigars, he’s going to drink pints of Lonerider.

When drinking Sweet Josie, you first notice a sweet / smoky smell of coffee, toasted malts and roasted nuts. Upon first sip, you forget you are drinking a Brown Ale because the brew is so flavorful. You will be hit with chocolate, a little hops and bitterness as well as a caramel taste. Currently, I am on my 4th pint and noticing different flavors with each glass!

Who wouldn’t love a Sweet Josie; a chick who can grind up on you, make you feel dangerous (but also safe), needing you, wanting you, taking you. This beer is perfect for any food that’s roasted like roast beef or even roast chicken compliment. But even without food, Sweet Josie stands alone as a solid brew. So this weekend, forget about those girls who drink fruity martinis and pick-up a chick who isn’t afraid to handle a six-shooter, even if you only have one in the chamber, and pick-up Lonerider Sweet Josie Brown Ale.

Cheers!
