It was announced today that for the first time in NBA 2K history, NBA 2k14 will feature 14 of the top teams from the Turkish Airlines Euroleague. This comes on the heels of multi-year partnership that was signed today.
Here’s a list of the teams:
Olympiacos Piraeus (Greek)
Panathinaikos Athens (Greek)
Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv (Israeli)
Zalgiris Kaunas (Lithuania)
EA7 Emporio Armani Milano (Italian)
Montepaschi Siena (Italian)
Fenerbahçe Ülker Istanbul (Turkish)
Anadolu Efes Istanbul (Turkish)
Alba Berlin (German)
FC Barcelona (Spanish)
Real Madrid (Spanish)
CSKA Moscow (Russian)
Unicaja Málaga (Spanish)
Laboral Kutxa Vitoria (Spanish)
For international fans of the sport, this moves makes a lot of sense. The game of basketball is becoming more global by the minute and it was really just a matter of time before a video game company capitalized on the opportunity. Apparently, fans have even taken to modding previous versions of 2K to create their own Euroleague teams.
For American fans of the sport, this news is still a little raw. We’ll have to wait and see how this is going to pan out. Is there going to be a Euroleague mode? Are you going to be able to develop your Create-A-Player in Europe first before bringing him to the US.
I think we can all agree that a “skip college” option would be awesome.
