Sony fired the latest shot by releasing the first confirmed pictures of the controller and free-standing camera that gamers will use to bring them one inch closer to a lifetime of carpal tunnel syndrome and “gaming chair knees” for its PS4.
These devices are trying to combine some of the newest elements and technologies that they, Microsoft and Nintendo have implemented for the PS3, Xbox 360 and WiiU respectively. For instance, in addition to the standard buttons and knobs, the new DUALSHOCK 4 controller also has a touchpad built into it similar to the mouse touchpad on a laptop for an added level of interactivity. The controller will also connect to the new console through “a new highly sensitive six-axis sensor.”
The console will also offer with a new PlayStation camera that looks similar to the Xbox Kinect with its “wide-angle lenses with 85-degree diagonal angle views which can recognize the depth of space precisely.” If it’s as impressive as Sony says it is, then Microsoft will have to unveil some kind of virtual “Holodeck” to make their Kinect seem relevant again.
