On March 2nd, most Texans tend to celebrate the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independance. That piece of legislation created what was once the Republic of Texas, an independent republic that encompassed much more land than the state you know now.  [lead image via Shutterstock]

That all ended in 1845, when Texas became the 28th state of the United States of America. While the state’s ability to really secede from the Union is up for debate–what’s not is the amount of southern belles that have come out of there.
