The aughts were a golden age for New Year’s Eve glasses manufacturers. The double zeros made for perfect eyeholes. The frames were easy to design, fashionable and adored by all.

Then 2010 hit. Debates ran high. Should the eye hole run through a fattened “1″ or should the “1″ be raised above the nose allowing for the final “0″ to fulfill the duty?

But by 2011, all was lost. Comparatively, even the 1990s were a fantastic era. Yes, little tails were left dangling, but the tops of “9s” are a perfect place for eyes to be placed.

Where will things go from here? There appears to be little relief in sight with 2014 and 2015 being an eyeglass engineer’s headache. Things won’t get any better when we hit the 2020s.
