Billboard’s Top Song This Week In 1982: Maneater [VIDEO]
The film quality that’s even been outmatched by late 90′s porn; the white guy with sunglasses and suit playing saxophone; the overlay of a panther; yep, that has to be the video for Hall and Oates’ “Maneater.”
This week in 1982, “Maneater” hit #1 on Billboard’s Top 100, and so much has changed since then. Okay, so musicians still do a lot of coke, and Oates’s creepy mustache is back in style with hipsters, state troopers and hockey fans.
“Maneater” is a super chill ballad about how a hooker, or a gold digger at least, can ruin a man. The only dude who’s come close to that message since is Kanye with “Gold Digger,” but Kanye’s tone is more mocking the girl. Hall and Oates, being white guys in the 80′s who look like Patrick Bateman from “American Psycho,” convey more of a “hey, if you want to kill her or propose to her, we’re equally ok with it.”
Note: watch this video, but please do not kill any prostitutes.
