2013-RR-HOF

Are you ready to rock!?! The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame just announced their 2013 inductees, so throw your “sign of the horns” hands into the air and let’s salute Satan to these now immortalized rock icons…!

Rush… Okay. Pretty rockin’. Heart… Alright. I guess they’re deserving as one of the biggest riffing female-fronted bands of all time. Randy Newman… Ooookay.  Now I’m starting to get a bit of a headache.

Public Enemy… Donna Summer… Albert King… Lou Adler… Quincy Jones…

Now, wait, yes, these are all acts (or producers) very deserving of praise, but… But come on.

Public Enemy is one of the best, maybe even the best, rap group of all time. But does one ill-advised song with Anthrax really make them “Rock & Roll” Hall of Fame worthy? And sure, Michael Jackson was the “King of Pop, Rock and Soul” — so maybe Quincy Jones deserves a third of an award for his work with MJ?

I’m all for diversity, but some of these recent inductees would be like putting Michael Jordan in the Baseball Hall of Fame because he was the greatest basketball player of all time …and played a little bit of minor league ball.

Or maybe rock and roll really is dead? I think Donna Summer had something to do with killing it.
