Can you believe Notre Dame football hasn’t won a national title since the 1988 season? (They won the Fiesta Bowl on January 2, 1989.) For almost 24 years Notre Dame has played the part of the prom queen hopeful, who’s got some daddy issues, but no crown. Good grades, good looks and plenty of fans don’t account for much when you just can’t win.

It’s a lot of pressure to put on one girl (team), and with so many big programs falling from grace this past year, the NCAA needs a shining beacon of hope… Enter Blue and Gold. So maybe they need a win, not because their students will be your boss someday, but because they actually go to class and they don’t get any sorority girls. Plus it’s been a while, and to give you an idea of how long it’s been, here’s 20 things that were happening the last time Notre Dame won a championship.
