Thanksgiving Poca-Hotness 2012 [90 PHOTOS]

Victoria’s Secret took some flack earlier this week after model Karlie Kloss wore a Native American headdress on the runway during the recent Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. According to the LA Times, “The headdress…is traditionally worn during special occasions by men who have done brave deeds in battle.” Not to dodge the controversy, but you gotta be pretty brave to work the runway with all those flashing cameras, so one could make the argument that a headdress is appropriate. Plus Thanksgiving is right around the corner — seems a fitting tribute.

What do you think? Controversial or overblown?

Not sure? Check out the pics of Karlie Kloss — and a bunch of other women wearing Native American garb — in the gallery below.

Controversial, and your picture gallery is completely inappropriate.

Let's pretend for a moment that this display isn't disgustingly racist and doesn't fetishize native women and open them up to rape or anything. Could you be any tackier?

This is so disgusting. Thanks for promoting hyper sexualized imagery of our culture. seriously not ok. "You gotta be pretty brave to work the runway with all those flashing cameras, so one could make the argument that a headdress is appropriate"…I for one will make that argument. THEY ARE MODELS! Walking runways with flashing cameras is their damn job you idiot. As for this being a fitting tribute, youre very wrong and very far off, a fitting tribute to thanksgiving would be posters of murdered Native children and their families. What the hell is wrong with you to make you think that ANY of this is ok??

    4. Lukas says:

Controversial. It's awarded for contributions to a tribe in battle, not for being brave enough to prance in front of cameras in your underwear. Yes it's tough, but war bonnets are things you've risked you life for NOT things you wear to look sexy.

    5. RSmith says:

This is hugely offensive. Not only belittling a genuine complaint from the Native American community, a community that has been exploitated/oppressed ever since white people went to America, but the hyper-sexualisation of Native American women is extremely socially harmful; their racial identity is not a costume. Native American women are not a male fantasy but actual human beings

    6. Hanalee says:

If by a "fitting tribute" you mean continue in the American tradition of stereotyping and objectifying the extremely diverse cultures of the native peoples of North America, then yes, it is a very fitting tribute.

Also bonus points for not only posting a gallery of super racist and disrespectful images in regards to American Indians, but also a gallery full of objectifying images of women. Hats off to you, fellas.

Next time, if you'd like people to weigh in on if a near naked woman's headdress is racist or not, why not try asking an actual Native American and see what they come up with?

    7. Cat says:

This literally offends me in ways I can not even describe with words. This is ignorance at it's finest. The best of racism.

    8. Rhye says:

"….so one could make the argument that a headdress is appropriate."
^^ Yes and that 'one' would be irrelevant and stupid.

But don't worry, it's not just limited to that 'one.' Anyone who shares a similar mindset is just as irrelevant and stupid.

    9. memchi says:

Not just controversial–straight up disrespectful and damaging. The gallery equally so. After reading about the issues and understanding that there are two sides, why was this gallery of half-naked non-Native women (specifically chosen BECAUSE they're dressed as sexual stereotypes and bastardizations) even green-lighted? You can be sexy without racist caricatures.

"Plus Thanksgiving is right around the corner- seems a fitting tribute." Yes, this white girl flaunting a headdress to promote laungerie IS a fitting tribute. A fitting tribute to the genocide launched against Native Americans by Europeans, one that the Thanksgiving Day story about the sweet companionship between the two prettily paints over.

    11. Niitsitapi13 says:

I'm Niitsitapi, this is fucking racist

Awww, you guys wanted some attention, so you made this sad, sad article. After all that has happened these past few weeks, you really should know better.

It's a bit overblown IMO. All of this is maybe (and I stress maybe) ignorance at it's worst, but racist? Come on. Just like it isn't racist whenever the Redskins (or any other sport team with similar name/titles) storm the field at the start of every game. Just like it isn't racist when I open the door on Halloween to a couple of girls dressed up as Pocahontas. And as a Christian, I don't find it offensive when Victoria models wear angle wings. Nor, having been in the military, do I get offended when woman seductively wear military uniforms. People are just way way too sensitive in this country and are way way too liberal when playing their "racist card".
People seriously need to lighten up (a lot).
There are more important things to worry about in this crazy world than what lingerie models are wearing on the catwalk.

      • Orono says:

Army women ARE sexually harassed quite frequently. Maybe that's another thing to take notice of. Sad that brave men the world over don't even protect their comrades in arms. Maybe we men should do a bit better at not treating women as objects or demanding they be presented as such.

    13. Internaut says:

This is tasteless crap. Keep this rape fodder on your garage walls and stop handing out racist, sexist wank material to a bunch of drooling knuckleheads to give them terrible ideas about native women, who are raped and murdered more than any other race on this continent. Way to take a serious and sensitive issue, wrap it around your cock and start jerking, you loathsome waste of flesh.

    14. Ranch says:

Anyone who says this is disrespectful is 1. An idiot, 2. A hypocrite, and 3. Has too much time in their failed little lives. How many people here are also complaining about Priest Robes, Nun Habits and Rosaries sold during Halloween as costumes? ZERO. Yet, its the same thing. How many people here also complaining about every actor who portrays a culture other than his own? ZERO. Yet its the same thing. I have to assume those complaining are under the age of 30 and mentally under the age of 12. Woo-woo woo-woo! Grab your feathered headdress, rubber tomahawk, and rubber tipped bow and arrow and have a good time. Ignore the naysayers and they'll live their pathetic lives blogging in some closed room somewhere.

    15. CB2 says:

It's only offensive because all of you clearly portray Native American CULTURE as negative. You're saying you're native america…do you not take pride in your culture? You're saying that we should be advanced enough to not wear articles that represent other cultures? I think we're not advanced enough to understand that it's HISTORY and maybe we're portraying it out of respect.
