‘Goon,’ One Of The Best Hockey Movies In The Past 10 Years, Is Getting a Sequel And We’re Excited

After ripping through Netflix and the On Demand circuit like one of the dirty hits hockey is known for, hockey-dramedy Goon has built a cult-like following for it’s honest look at hockey below the professional level. With a poster like this, how could we not love it?

All courtesy of Goon, plenty of our boring weekday nights have ended with a sixer, violent hits, Stifler actually being funny, and Liev Schreiber being a total badass with an incredible Fu-Manchu mustache. It’s got heart, memorable characters, and focuses on hockey (something that hasn’t really been good movie-wise since D2: The Mighty Ducks). We are obviously not alone with this opinion since news got around that the film has just turned a profit, and talks of a sequel are underway.

Actor Jay Baruchel (the skinny kid from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and She’s Out of My League) wrote the first installment (who knew!?), and updated fans via Twitter on the status of Goon 2. Shoutout to Collider for putting his semi nonsensical tweets into one coherent paragraph:

“I’d like to say thank you to all of you for all the GOON 2 love. You guys are wicked.”
“Though I do feel the need to clarify something from the last article I posted, GOON 2 will be written by @jessechabot and myself.”
“Evan Goldberg will be involved as a producer and we will all be working our asses off to make as awesome a flick as possible.”
“Please know this: GOON is pretty close to sacred for all of us involved and we would only be entertaining the idea of continuing the saga if we were all equally convinced that Doug, Laflamme, Stevesy, the Russians, Rolie, Ogilvy Belchy and Eva were only getting started”
