Bill Maher and Comedians on Late Shows [COMEDY TONIGHT]

Here’s some trivia you can only learn if you read Wikipedia: Bill Maher began his stand-up career in 1979 as host of the New York City comedy club Catch a Rising Star. Thanks to the legendary Steve Allen, In 1982 he began appearing on Johnny Carson and David Letterman’s shows. Maher is on a late show tonight.

Read on to find out who else is being served up in the late night “chuckle crypt.” (NOTE: The term “chuckle crypt” is a copyrighted phrase. Any unauthorized use will result in killing of a bunny.)

Late Show with David Letterman (CBS | 11:35 PM EST)

Go away. No comedy guests tonight. Blah.

Zach Galifianakis on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (NBC | 12:35 AM EST)

Mr. Galifianakis is a regular staple on the late night circuit. The chubby-bearded-one has the ability to make a stoic judge laugh his ass off. (Pretty weak simile – but you get where I’m going with this one.) To prove my point, here are a few great Zach one-liners:

“I think those neighborhood signs that say ‘slow children playing’ are mean.”

“My girlfriend looks a little like Charlize Theron…and a lot like Patrick Ewing.”

“I dream of moving to India, or Pakistan, and becoming a cabdriver.”

See him tonight on Fallon.

Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC |12:05 AM EST)

Go away. No comedy guests tonight. Blah.

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (CBS|12:35 AM EST)

Go away. No comedy guests tonight. Blah.

Rebel Wilson on Conan (TBS|10 PM EST)

She’s a huge star in Australia; Rebel Wilson has now cracked the American market with her role in Bridesmaids. (I haven’t seen the movie, but a good friend of mine will defend that it’s full of solid laughs.) The Aussie comedy star is taking off in a big way – and you can see her tonight on Conan.

Bill Maher, on The Tonight Show w/Jay Leno (NBC|11:35/10:35)

Bill Maher is at the very top of the political comedy game. Along with Jon Stewart, Maher hits the bullseye every time when it comes to shedding light on the foibles of our country’s political scene. In the height of the inane Obama birther question, Maher lampooned the situation with trying to create the Romney “wifer” controversy. (He’s never shown the public his marriage certificate, has he?) Check Maher out tonight on Leno.
