Where Are the Women At? How Men and Women Use Social Media

Almost 150 million Americans now use at least one social networking site, but women are far more active than men, racking up almost 100 million more visits per month. So where are the women at? It’s not shocking to hear that Pinterest is dominated by the fairer sex, but they also have a strong presence on Twitter (64 percent), Facebook (58 percent) and even social gaming – 60 percent of Zynga users are female.
Other sites are decidedly more testosterone driven. Reddit (84 percent) and Google+ (71 percent) are both man-cave havens. There are some places where the gender divide is a bit more balanced. Social discovery site Tagged boasts a near even split between men and women.
