Since 1923, Time Magazine has been the standard for American news magazines. On this day 99 years ago the first issue of Time Magazine was published and they haven’t slowed down since. 1927 saw the magazine debut their quintessential “Man of the Year” cover, which since then has become the staple of Time. The featured evolved from Man of the Year to Person/Object/Group of the year, but it has maintained the same mission: to feature a person, group, idea or object that “for better or for worse, …has done the most to influence the events of the year.”
Below, you can check out every one of the 85 covers that Time has featured over the years. Fun fact…Mick Foley was the fan vote for 1998 following his insane performance vs. The Undertaker in the Hell in a Cell Match. Time Magazine got lame real quick and ignored the fan vote and instead gave the 1998 cover to Bill Clinton and Kenneth Starr. Boo.
