Drinks of the Week: The IceBreaker, Muffled Screech, Superfruit Sangria

By Edit Posted in Booze + Food, Culture

Looking for some new, fresh, and unique drinks to pour this weekend? Well, you’re in luck, because your pals here at COED Magazine have opened our fully stocked booze stash once again to bring you three new spirits! This time around we’ll be kicking off with Zodiac VodkaVeeV Acai Liqueur, and finishing strong with Newfoundland Screech Rum. Let’s do this!

Zodiac Vodka

Distilled in Rigby, Idaho – smack dab in the middle of potato country, Zodiac Vodka is produced and distilled in small batches from what else? POTATOES! Zodiac is produced using a modern column, continuous distillation process. Where the vodka is actually distilled once. They like to say “we get it right the first time”.

After it’s 1 and only distillation, Zodiac is then blended with the purest Rocky Mountain spring water drawn from a deep well in the Snake River and then carefully filtered through hand cut Canadian Birch charcoal.

How does it taste? Good question… Here’s our review.

VeeV Açaí Spirit

Touted as the world’s 1st “Açaí Spirit”, VeeV liqueur is brought to life using the exotic Brazilian super fruit – Açaí (pronounced ah-SIGH-ee). The Açaí fruit is thought to be the healthiest fruit in the world!

VeeV’s distillery uses renewable wind energy and a 4-column distillation process that is 200% more efficient than traditional pot stills. We’re impressed by VeeV’s “go-green” attitude, obviously, but com’on… Does it taste good? That’s what everyone really wants to know! We put this super elixir to the test and here are the results…

Newfoundland Screech Rum

Steeped in legend and history, and as the story goes, Screech Rum was first created in the days of the “Triangle Trade“, where the same barrels were used to carry molasses and rum, and only occasionally cleaned. The barrels built up a deposit of impossibly sweet sediment at the bottom, which was melted out with boiling water and either fermented or mixed with grain alcohol.

Best known for its potent alcohol content early-on. Over the years, the alcohol content of Screech has been toned down and the flavor mellowed. Good thing too, because in 2003, Screech Rum won a gold medal for excellent taste at the International Rum Festival.
