Using the original game as a jumping off point, software engineers are turning console blockbusters into mobile games, including Assassin’s Creed, Madden, NBA Live, and many more. Just think, next time you’re falling asleep while you’re doing work, you can kill some time with an awesome game…instead of just counting the minutes to happy hour.

Assassin’s Creed: Altair’s Chronicles – The portable game originally designed for Nintendo DS as a bridge between the two full length titles is now readily available on iPods for $4.99. Ambitious and visually appealing in its design, this compelling Assassin’s Creed expansion is a must have for fans of the console versions, or adventure gamers in general

NBA Live 10 – While the latest version on XBox 360 might cost you upwards of $60.00, EA Sports’ app goes for a cool $6.99 in the Apple store. No hokey gimmicks or trickery here though, as the game features every NBA team, real players, actual logos and complete uniforms. A 15 song soundtrack, full 82 game season mode, and nearly everything else you could ask for are all included.

Madden NFL 10 – If it works for basketball, it should be fine for football too, right? Exactly. EA Sports adapted one of the most popular sports games in history for mobile use, complete with Bluetooth enabled multiplayer action. Commentary, full rosters, season mode, and nearly 300 different plays should keep you off task for more than a couple of hours.

Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies – While it’s slightly pricey at $9.99, this outrageous spin on the historically inspired first person shooters is in a class of its own. World at War: Zombies supports up to four player online co-op, so a whole group of friends can join in the undead killing frenzy. Loaded with weapons, maps, and enemies, this is one of the best mobile shooters out there.

FIFA World Cup 2010 – The best soccer game around is now iPod friendly for only $6.99. EA pulled off another incredible job by incorporating all of the actual 10 stadiums for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and making for an amazingly realistic experience. All 105 participating countries are also available, so you can lead the nation of your choice to World Cup glory.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – For a mere $5.99 you can relive childhood memories created by the familiar, iconic blue hedgehog who vaulted the Sega Genesis to ultimate success years ago. Lightning quick game play, fast action, and nearly 100 levels make this a long lasting delight for retro gamers across the country.
